EASY-C is a research project financed by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), which will be jointly led by Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone and coordinated by Prof. Dr. Gerhard Fettweis at the Vodafone Chair Mobile Communications Systems, Technische Universität Dresden, as well as the Fraunhofer Institute for Communications, Heinrich-Hertz Institute (HHI). The aim of the research in EASY-C will be to develop key technologies for the next generation of cellular networks in order to enable new applications such as video streaming and location-based services. The challenging requirements of such applications towards spectral efficiency, latency and fairness shall be met by using innovative multi-antenna techniques and multi-cell cooperative techniques such as relaying, interference coordination and cancellation. From theoretical research, it is already well-known that such techniques are the key to significantly increased spectral efficiencies and improved system fairness, but EASY-C will be the first project worldwide in which a cellular testbed is built for implementing and testing these innovative techniques in practice. It is likely that the techniques investigated in the EASY-C project will be the basis for major progress towards the next generation of mobile communications systems, and have a strong impact on future standardisation activities. More information on EASY-C is available on the website of the DLR (German Aerospace Center), at the overview presentation and at YouTube. ![]() |
